Settings: Fan Control

Fan control modes

There are three modes available

  • Fixed: the fan is always running at a certain percentage
  • Try to keep GPU at: ATITool will change fan speed to reach a certain GPU temperature
  • Dynamic: The fan speed follows the temperature vs. speed table below

Once you set your mode, you can close ATITool and the temperature chip on the card will do all the work.
Only for mode “Try to keep GPU at” it is required that ATITool is running, since ATITool is directly controlling the fan in that mode.

Do not change PWM base frequency

ATITool changes the PWM base frequency in order to give finer fan control steps.
On X850 cards this results in squeaking noises from the video card, this is a design issue of the fan control circuit.

If you experience this problem, check this box and reboot. The fan noises should be gone now.

Reset

Clicking on reset loads a temperature vs. speed table which is hard coded into ATITool onto the temp chip. The table is not loaded from the video card BIOS, since it is unknown where and how the information is encoded there.
