Yuin PK1 Ear Buds

Introduction

Head-Direct is a headphone retailer that carries a lot of niche Chinese Hi-Fi brands. Yuin is a relatively small Chinese based earbud manufacturer that makes some really radical earbuds. Recently we reviewed the brand new OK-series earphones, but now the time has come to revisit the older PK1 earbuds. Unlike the new OK-series from Yuin the old PK-series earbuds cannot be converted into canalphones so if you are looking for some degree of isolation you should skip past the PK-series.

The Yuin PK1s were the first high impedance earbuds that could even begin to compete with full sized earphones. Like the newer OK-earphones the old PK-series earbuds are also available in three different variants. The PK1 is the top of the line earbud with the most extravagant specs and the largest bundle.

The Package

The Yuin PK1s ship in a stylish wooden box with some cardboard around. The box is reusable and perfect for storing the PK1s in when you are not using them.

It seems that Yuin has put a lot of effort into both the box and the accessories. With each pair of PK1s you get four foam covers, three of them with a hole in the middle. And a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter which means that you can hook them up to your full-size headphone amp at home. With the PK1s you are constantly reminded that this is not a normal pair of earbuds, with an impedance of a whooping 150 Ohms.

You get a little plastic case with the Yuin PK1s that you can use while on the move. It is a good piece of accessory and provides a decent amount of protection.

Most of the manual is in Chinese (I think) so good luck with that. Luckily most people probably already know how to use and maintain a pair of earbuds.
